Nevada Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Jon Gruden Over Leaked Emails Scandal Against the NFL - The Playoffs
The Nevada Supreme Court has handed a huge win to former Raiders coach Jon Gruden in his fight against the NFL towards leaked emails damaging his reputation.

Former Las Vegas Raiders’ coach Jon Gruden has earned a huge win after the Nevada Supreme Court ruled in his favor over his allegations that the NFL leaked emails to the media in a bid to harm his reputation.
Gruden then filed a lawsuit against the NFL, alleging that commissioner Roger Goodell and the league put pressure on the Raiders to fire him by leaking emails in which Gruden had made racist, sexist, and anti-gay comments directed at Goodell and others in the NFL when he was an analyst for ESPN.
Gruden, who was the Raiders’ head coach back in 2021 when this scandal came out, resigned immediately. Last year, a smaller panel consisting of just 3 members dismissed Gruden’s appeal to reconsider by a 2-1 margin.

What is the Nevada Supreme Court’s Ruling?
Initially, the Nevada Supreme Court had ruled that Gruden’s lawsuit against the NFL should be worked out via arbitration. However, upon filing a motion for the hearing, a 7-member panel ruled in favor of Gruden by a 5-2 margin.
Although the justices did not determine whether or not the league actually leaked the emails, the 7-panel members voted that the lawsuit cannot be sent to arbitration and must proceed in public, thereby ensuring that the NFL does not receive any leverage in this matter. The justices gave the following statement supporting their decision.
“By its own unambiguous language, the NFL Constitution no longer applies to Gruden. If the NFL Constitution were to bind former employees, the Commissioner could essentially pick and choose which disputes to arbitrate.”
Following the Nevada Supreme Court’s verdict, Gruden’s lawyer Adam Hosmer-Henner of McDonald Carano LLP expressed their delight over the ruling not just for Gruden himself, but for all employees facing an unfair arbitration process from their employers.
“We’re very pleased with the Nevada Supreme Court’s decision, not just for Coach Gruden but for all employees facing an employer’s unfair arbitration process. This victory further vindicates Coach Gruden’s reputation, and it clears the way to swiftly bringing him full justice and holding the NFL accountable.”

There is plenty that has happened behind closed doors that hasn’t come out yet. The most suspicious question remains as to why the NFL waited months to take action when they had learned about these emails in July, football’s offseason. Instead, the league decided to act on it in October when the season was already underway.
Should the NFL approach the US Supreme Court, and should they agree to take the case, plenty of questions would get answered, especially the all-important one of who actually sent the emails in October 2021.
